21st July 2008 At the moment the major area of focus is on the brake control system. In part this is down to the plumbing proving significantly more difficult in the final stages, mainly due to congestion between the frames below the cab footplate. Keith Nicholson from Interfleet Technology will start the brake system commissioning in w/b Monday 21st July. 16th June 2008 The remaining brake pins have been delivered and both tender and loco brake gear erected after some additional fitting and machining work on the tender brake hangers. The lengths of the pull rods have been set which in turn has allowed the forked ends to be permanently welded on. Both tender and loco mechanical brake linkages have been tested with compressed air and work satisfactorily, requiring only paint and final pinning together to complete them.
27th May 2008 Some air brake control equipment has been returned from overhaul which will enable us to install the bracketry and pipework on the tender. Ian Howitt has delivered further mechanical brake gear. 22nd April 2008 Ian Howitt has modified the loco brake cross stays and they will be returned from Crofton shortly. He is also producing the final brake pins. GN Steam has welded the one set of end forks onto each pull rod to enable a trial assembly in the near future.
24th March 2008 The ex diesel and electric locomotive brake equipment is with Railway Brake Services Ltd for overhaul. The electronic auto drain valves for the reservoirs and wet tank recommended by Keith Nicholson have been ordered from General Pneumatics in Australia.19th January 2008 The ex diesel and electric locomotive brake equipment is being removed from the locomotive following trial fitting to be sent to Railway Brake Services Ltd for overhaul. The small air receivers are being internally inspected and hydraulically tested. Graeme Bunker has negotiated the purchase of a steam loco type AWS sunflower and cancelling lever unit which Mandy Sharpe will adapt for TPWS. Mandy is also ordering long lead TPWS equipment for us.
20th December 2007
15th January 2007 Tornado is to be fitted with twin air pumps and work proceeds on the mounting of these.

All the air receivers except the wet tank have been fitted to the engine or the tender frame.

Work also continues on the braking system and here we have one of the brake cylinders arriving for test.
