Pathfinder tours are organising a great run out to Holyhead in May.  Starting off diesel hauled from the Wiltshire, Oxfordshire and Midlands stations the train first heads for the famous railway junction of Crewe. Here motive power is changed, with Tornado taking over for the two hundred mile plus return run from Crewe all the way to line's end at Holyhead on the Isle of Anglesey. This will be one of Tornado's first runs along the route.

Once away from Crewe and into its stride, Tornado will takes the train through the Chester area and out along the Dee estuary, with views across to the Wirral peninsula. Once on the Irish Sea coast it will speed through resorts such as Rhyl and Colwyn Bay before crossing Stephenson's magnificent Conway Bridge adjacent to the old castle.

Views of the Great Orme appear across the waters as the line runs close to the Snowdonia National Park, with its hills and mountains, before arriving in Bangor, the first optional set down.  Soon after leaving the station the train takes the curve onto the Britannia Bridge, high above the Menai Straits, to Anglesey. The final leg across the island takes the train through Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch and then past RAF Valley before easing into Holyhead, the end of the line and a major ferry port for Ireland.

The return journey, retracing the outward routing, features Tornado in charge from Holyhead and Bangor back to Crewe, with a diesel locomotive then hauling the last leg back to our set down stations to complete the day.  You can see the full details of all the set down and pick up points, associated coach tours and timings here.
