THE BIG GREEN STEAM MACHINE RETURNS TO THE NENE VALLEY RAILWAY IN AUGUST
Tornado will return to The Nene Valley Railway this August, her first heritage railway appearance following her intermediate overhaul over the winter. Tornado will appear again in the glorious and arguably most popular Apple green livery that was applied when Tornado first appeared in front of the world's cameras back in 2009. This announcement is hot on the heels of earlier news with Tornado being awarded the prestigious Belmond British Pullman contract for 2015, her appearance at the Nene Valley Railway fitting in between these main line duties.
Whilst at the Nene Valley Railway, Tornado will be performing timetabled services, a photo charter as well as being available for special Driver Experience days. Tornado's itinerary is as follows:
Arrival from 10th to 12th August
Driving Experience course 13-14th August
Driving Experience Course 20-21st August
Photo Charter 28th August
Tornado passenger running 29th, 30, 31st August
Mark Allatt, Chairman of The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust said "We are very pleased to return with Tornado to our friends at The Nene Valley Railway who always give us such a special welcome. Having returned Tornado to her original and arguably best livery, we are hopeful 2015, especially following her award of the 2015 ‘British Pullman’ contract, will continue to excite the next generation and introduce them to the world of steam. We are delighted The Nene Valley Railway will allow so many opportunities for people to not only see Tornado, but to ride behind and even drive and fire her".
Paul Roe, Locomotive Superintendent at the Nene Valley Railway said, “We are very pleased to see Tornado return to us at the NVR, more so as she will be in her LNER Apple Green livery. We enjoy a very special relationship with our friends at The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust, and we are looking forward to seeing her at the railway in August we are busy planning the visit, and intend to showcase this unique locomotive at the planned Driving Experience courses and August Bank Holiday event “A Weekend Tornado”
