As part of the "Children in Need" auction for things that money can't buy, Terry Wogan will be taking bids for an amazing lot, a footplate ride up the East Coast Main Line to York:
The Package (Lot #5):
• This Prize is for four people: 1 person gets to ride on the footplate for the three hour journey on the East Coast Mainline from London to York in 2010. Whilst at the same time, the other members of the group ride ‘on the cushions’ (that’s rail terminology for ‘sit on the train in comfort’).
• On the way back, you’ll all sit together and dine on the train whilst sharing the delights of a day spent sampling the magic of steam. Tornado is the first main line steam locomotive to be built in Britain since 1960.
Earlier this year, Tornado featured on 'Top Gear' when it came second to a car in a race from London to Edinburgh. Now is your chance to follow in the footsteps of Jeremy Clarkson and steam ahead on the East Coast Main Line. Jeremy is the only person other than members of staff from The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust and DB Schenker who’ve experienced what we’re about to offer.
The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust is proud to be helping "Children in Need" so listen to Terry's radio show and get your bids in early! This is an unmissable opportunity!
