FULL STEAM AHEAD FOR NEW STEAM LOCOMOTIVE BOND ISSUE
Haft-million pound 4% unsecured bearer bonds launched to accelerate completion of No. 60163 Tornado
The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust, the registered charity that is building the first new mainline steam locomotive in Britain for over 40 years, today launched a £500,000, 4% unsecured bearer bonds issue to accelerate the completion of all new express passenger steam locomotive No. 60163 Tornado.
The A1 Trust is building Peppercorn Class A1 Pacific No. 60163 Tornado at its Darlington Locomotive Works (Darlington was the birthplace of the railways) and when complete it will be used on the Network Rail mainline on charter trains. Tornado is already around 50% complete, with over £1m raised to-date through deeds of covenant and commercial sponsorship. The funds raised by the bond issue with help the Trust to achieve its target completion date of 2006.
Mark Allatt, chairman of The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust commented: “Completion of Tornado by 2006 depends on the success of this bond issue. Tornado is a new steam locomotive for a new century. Fully equipped for the 21st century railway it will be the flagship steam locomotive taking railways from their current 200th anniversary year into their third century.”
