Tornado is set to make a welcome return to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, in time for the May Bank Holiday week. The locomotive, which has just been unveiled at the National Railway Museum in its new livery, BR Passenger Green, will arrive at the NYMR on Wednesday 25 May. It will be put into operation on Thursday 26 May, which is a symbolic day for the North Yorkshire Moors Railway, as it marks the 175
th anniversary day since the Whitby-Pickering line was first opened on 26 May 1836. As well as hauling passenger services during the day,
Tornado will also haul a special ‘Anniversary’ Pullman dining service on the evening of 26 May.
The locomotive, which is one of a kind, will be running on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway on certain dates between 26 May and 5 June. Those keen to see the engine in its new livery are advised to check the NYMR timetable for precise details of its running. Further information is available at

th birthday since its opening.
