The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust has been advised by Network Rail and the British Transport Police that due to significant concerns regarding crowd control at Newcastle Central station on Sunday 1st February, Tornado's second train cannot operate through to Newcastle. Given the situation the Trust has considered its options with its operating partners and taken the decision to continue with the operation of the train but alter the destination to be the University City of Durham, more information on which can be found at www.durhamtourism.co.uk .
As this reduces the length of the trip slightly we are delighted to be able to announce that our train on the 1st February will now start from Doncaster with 60163 Tornado hauling the train from there. Passengers will still be able to join the train at York if they prefer. The return journey will be steam hauled from Durham to York with a modern diesel returning the train to Doncaster. It should be noted that Tornado will not be at Newcastle Central at any point on Sunday 1st February.
The confirmed timings are:
Outward:
Doncaster - Platform 1 - 1156hrs
York - Platform 11 - 1227-1248hrs
Durham - Platform 2 - 1410-1415
Return:
Durham - Platform 1 - 1750-53
York 1857-1928
Doncaster - 1952
We apologise for the late change in itinerary but hope that it is understood that we must always prioritise the safety and enjoyment of passengers. We would like to thank the immediate and positive assistance of Network Rail, DB Schenker and National Express for their assistance in arranging a suitable alternative.
For those travelling on the train detailed timings and information will be sent along with your tickets as soon as possible by first class post.
Please do not contact the Trust for further information as this will be posted on the website as soon as we have it and mailed to passengers with their tickets.
