Thank you to everyone who has entered our recent competitions.
Our first winner, in the competition to guess the weight of Tornado’s front coupling link which was temporarily taken off the engine while it was undergoing maintenance at the National Railway Museum at York, was Mr Richardson of Leeds. With an answer of 66lbs, he was only 2oz off the correct answer of 65lbs 14oz (or 29.88kg). Mr Richardson wins £50 of Tornado merchandise vouchers. There were 246 competition entries.
Next up was the competition to guess how many miles Tornado would travel during the engine’s visit to the Great Central Railway in Leicestershire. The winner, with a guess of 953 miles, only 1 mile off the correct answer of 954, was Mrs Shrewsbury of Huntingdon. There were several other guesses very close to the correct answer in a very popular competition that saw 456 entries. Mrs Shrewsbury also wins £50 of Tornado merchandise vouchers.
Our most recent competition, held at Shildon in County Durham, was to guess the number of “slices” in Tornado’s new support coach. The answer, for those who looked carefully at information available at the Tornado stand at Locomotion, was 1,524 slices. There were 202 entries in this competition, with many entrants guessing the correct answer. The winner, drawn at random from the correct entries, was Mr Michael Johnson of Whitley Bay, Tyne & Wear. Mr Johnson wins a limited edition print of an A1 and an A4 north of Newcastle station.
For those mystified by the question of “slices” of support coach, please click on the “How you can help” link in the left hand menu bar. The Trust is in process of overhauling and restoring its own support coach and we hope to have it ready for use later this year. Further information on how you can be part of this vitally important fund raising campaign can be found by clicking on the “Support Coach” link where donation forms can also be downloaded.
Congratulations to our winners. Watch out for another Tornado competition soon!
