While there are several in depth books dealing with the technical aspects of
Tornado's construction, this neat, A5 sized book captures the passion and heartache of those behind the scenes. Granted unique access to the project, Tom Ingall has been able to condense the many human tales behind the story into a heart-warming record of the people who turned the dream into reality. Tom Ingall is also responsible for the DVD, "Absolutely Chuffed - from dream to steam", also available from our online store. Ian Allan's rather dry description doesn't do this work justice:
"The story of the first steam locomotive for mainline use to be built in Britain for over forty years, the A1 4-6-2 60163
Tornado. From the ambitious plan to build the locomotive to its triumphant entry into service, plus a look back at the original Peppercorn designed engines, this is a fascinating insight into its building and the determination of the enthusiasts to see the project through. 88 colour and 7 b/w photos. 128 pages. Smaller sized laminated landscape hardback"
