Our Director of Electrical Engineering, Rob Morland, and Design Engineer, Alan Parkin, completed a successful three days at Locomotive Maintenance Services (LMS) in Loughborough. Most of the work was on Tornado's tender. Alan terminated all the wiring on the engine-tender umbilical connectors. Rob installed and wired-up the ETCS battery chargers, finished wiring up the two rear underframe boxes, fitted the rear buffer beam LED lighting strip, wired the coach to the locomotive power input connector and connected the rear handlamp plugin point. Andy Meredith of LMS, installed the new harnesses into the gland box at the bottom of the tender and fed them through into the lockers above. On the engine, Alan terminated the wires on the new second turbogen connector. We are still awaiting some connector components (principally the ‘keeps’ and dust caps) but otherwise the umbilical connectors are complete on both the engine and tender.
