Today, 9th January, at just after 2-00pm Mrs Dorothy Mather, President of The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust lit the first fire for
Tornado thus marking a truly momentous moment in the history of The Trust and one which we have all been eagerly anticipating.
The fire was lit with
Tornado inside the works:
But soon the locomotive was carefully pushed outside:
In the afternoon sun
Tornado sits outside the works as coal is slowly added to the fire:
The locomotive will remain outside the works - being tended throughout the night as the boiler pressure is slowly increased ready for the steam test on Friday
Visitors are welcome to view proceedings from Hopetown Lane but we regret that for safety reasons no visitors will be allowed into the works whilst work proceeds on the steam test.
The Works will however be open to visitors between 11:00hrs and 16:00hrs this coming Saturday 12th January
