LOCAL MP PRAISES TORNADO PROJECT
The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust, the registered charity that is building the first new main line steam locomotive in Britain for over 40 years, today welcomed the Rt Hon Alan Milburn MP for Darlington to their Darlington Locomotive Works to see the progress on Tornado.
On seeing Tornado Alan Milburn MP commented: “There is a tremendous amount of hard work and effort going into The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust. Darlington has historic links with the railway. And I am looking forward to the day the Tornado is up and running.”
Mark Allatt, Chairman of The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust commented: “The Trust is delighted that Alan Milburn MP for Darlington paid a visit today to Darlington Locomotive Works to see the progress that has been made in constructing Tornado and the challenges that lie ahead to complete Tornado and appreciated Mr. Milburn’s offer to assist in any way possible.
The first quarter of this year will see the Trust announce a bond issue in order to accelerate completion of Tornado and is at the moment in the process of analysing responses to its Invitation To Tender for Tornado’s boiler.
All of this will require additional volunteers who are experienced in the fields of railway engineering, finance, marketing and administration.”
