We have the tank, we have the wheels, and the tender frame is on its way!
Last week the tender frames for P2 No. 2007 Prince of Wales made the first leg of their journey to Darlington Locomotive Works (DLW). The completed frames have been dispatched from Ian Howitt’s works in Wakefield for final gritblasting, preparation and painting in primer. This is best done at a specialist contractor to save mess and cost at DLW. This process was complete on 19th June (pictured above).
ON THE MOVE
No. 2007 Prince of Wales' tender frame leaving ID Howitt, Crofton
The frames are scheduled to reach Darlington by the end of the month, signifying a major milestone being achieved in the project to build a P2. Further fitting out will be required, for pipework and conduits, with discussions around ETCS requirements ongoing. The tender wheel sets also require balancing but can be trial fitted before that occurs.
ABOUT THE TENDER
No. 2007 Prince of Wales’ tender in 3D CAD - Daniela Filová/A1SLT
Our aim is to raise £450,000 with The Tender Club from 250 supporters each donating £1,500 plus Gift Aid (in up to 15 payments of £100). Members of The Tender Club receive the special benefits detailed on the website.
To date, we have spent over £250,000 on the tender, with around half of that being raised by Tender Club donations. The rest has been funded by Covenanted income, which diverts spend away from other areas of the project and affects the rate of the build. With work still required to attach the tank to the frames, affix piping and electricals and balance the wheels, we still need your support. Please consider signing up to The Tender Club today.

The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust is raising funds for the construction of the tender for the new Gresley class P2 No. 2007 Prince of Wales. If there are surplus funds left over following the construction of the tender, we will use the money to buy other components for the Gresley class P2 that the charity would not otherwise have.
