TORNADO HITS GLASGOW - SHAP AND BEATTOCK IN ONE DAY!
Tornado will visit Glasgow on Wednesday 21
st September 2011. She will be hauling the ‘The Caledonian Tornado’ charter train from Crewe to Glasgow and back consisting of vintage carriages, all bringing back the glamour of the Age of Steam. En route the train will call at Manchester, last visited by Tornado when she hauled The Royal Train which brought HRH The Prince of Wales to the Museum of Science and Industry in 2009, but this will be the first opportunity the people of Manchester will have to travel on a train hauled by
Tornado, from their City.
Tornado, in her new distinctive livery of BR Brunswick green, will pick up passengers from Crewe early in the morning (estimated departure time 07.00, return 00.15) , then Stockport (depart 07.30, return 23.45), Manchester Piccadilly (depart 07.45, return 23.30), Bolton (depart 08.15, return 22.55), Leyland (depart 08.25, return 22.45), Preston (depart 09.10, return 22.15) and finally Lancaster (depart 09.35, return 21.55) before heading north for her first ever visit to Scotland’s second city Glasgow, where there will be a break of around 3 hours.
It will be a mega tour covering 510 miles, including two of the most arduous railway gradients in the British Isles; Shap Fell in Cumbria and the notorious ten mile climb of Beattock Bank in the Southern Uplands.
Tornado’s progress will be marked by the characteristic plume of steam and smoke evoking memories of bygone days. On board those in the dining cars will be treated Pullman Style to traditional dishes from the Best of British menu made with only the finest local ingredients and skilfully prepared by the chef who has forty years of Pullman catering behind him, including cooking on The Royal Train for HRH The Queen and The Duke of Edinburgh. There will also be First Class Plus and Standard accommodation available.

Surprisingly the man behind the train is a Yorkshire Farmer, Hayden Fortune, who said “The love of railway engines is in my blood and has led me to become involved in running rail tours. I believe ‘The Caledonian Tornado’ will be a record breaking journey for the locomotive and a fantastic experience for all those travelling with her.”
