Following on from Tornado’s hugely successful ‘Race to the North’ appearance on BBC TV’s Top Gear in June 2009 and a chapter devoted to driving her in James May’s recently published book ‘How to land an A330 Airbus,’ 60163 now has a starring role in February’s Top Gear Magazine.
In Planet Top Gear’s ‘Guide to engineering that chaps should know about…’ James May romanticises about his love for steam engines and the excitement that he feels given their ‘unique mix of science and the occult.’ In particular James singles out the incredible achievement of how The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust rewrote the history books by building a brand new Peppercorn A1 Pacific for the mainline.
Although James ultimately triumphed over Jeremy Clarkson and Tornado in the ‘Race to the North’ (driving a 1940’s Jaguar XK120) it’s clear that he has an infectious enthusiasm for steam and he may just succeed in converting several thousand petrol-heads to the cause!
February’s edition of Top Gear Magazine is now available, priced £3.95.
