After another successful visit to the Great Central Railway in Leicestershire, Tornado is being moved to Crewe in preparation for a return to main line tour duties. The locomotive will be in residence at the Crewe Heritage Centre and on display on Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th April. The Centre will be open to members of the public from 10.00am to 4.00pm.
During the weekend, subject to operational requirements, there will be opportunities to visit the footplate of Tornado for a small charge. The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust will have an exhibition stand and merchandising outlet in the main hall and members of the team will be on hand to talk about the locomotive and the history of the project. On Monday 12th April the Centre will be open from 4.00pm with a further opportunity to see Tornado and at 7.00pm David Elliott, Director of Engineering of The A1 Steam Locomotive Trust, will be giving a talk about the construction of the locomotive.
The Centre will also be open on Tuesday 13th April between 4.00pm and 8.00pm when visitors will be able to see Tornado in steam prior to the locomotive’s main line engagement with “The Cumbrian Tornado” the following day.
